When it comes to fluid power and general hydraulic applications, ensuring that you have the right connectors is paramount for operational efficiency and safety. DIN EN ISO 8434-1 and DIN 2353 standards provide guidelines for 24° cone connectors, commonly used for fluid power systems. These standards ensure interchangeability, quality, and reliability in hydraulic fittings.

What Does DIN EN ISO 8434-1 Specify?

    Connector Bodies

The bodies must be made of steel that meets minimum pressure and temperature requirements. If the body is made of stainless steel or copper alloys, the manufacturer should define the pressure/temperature ratings.

    Nuts

Nuts should match the material of the bodies they are used with. For example, carbon steel nuts should be used with carbon steel bodies, and the same goes for stainless steel and copper alloy components.

    Cutting Rings

These should be made from a material compatible with the fluid to be conveyed. Steel cutting rings are to be used in combination with steel connector components and tubes.

    O-Rings

Unless otherwise specified, O-rings should be made of NBR (nitrile) with a hardness of 90±590±5 IRHD, conforming to ISO 3601-3:2005, grade N.

    Pressure/Temperature Requirements

Connectors made of carbon steel should function without leakage from a vacuum of 6.5 kPa to the working pressures stated in the standard. They should be operable at temperatures between -40°C and +120°C with petroleum-based hydraulic fluids.

    Three Series Based on Applications

    • LL Series: Extra light-duty
    • L Series: Light-duty
    • S Series: Heavy-duty

    Practical Applications

    • Industrial Machinery: These fittings are widely used in hydraulic systems for industrial equipment.
    • Automotive Sector: Used in braking systems, power steering, and transmission cooling lines.
    • Aerospace: For hydraulic systems in aircraft.
    • Marine Industry: Used in ships and offshore drilling rigs.

Why You Should Consult a Manufacturer

For applications that do not conform to the pressure and/or temperature limits, it’s crucial to consult the manufacturer. They can provide connectors with appropriate elastomeric seals meeting the required working temperature range for different hydraulic fluids.

    Choosing The Right Connector Supplier

Choosing the right connector for your hydraulic system is critical for its performance and safety. Always follow DIN EN ISO 8434-1 standards to ensure you are getting a quality and compatible component. If you have special requirements, consult with a manufacturer to get the perfect fit for your application.
