What’s BSPP thread?
The British Standard Parallel Pipe (BSPP) threading is a prominent standard, especially in regions like the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Characterized by its parallel thread design, it uniquely employs a bonded seal ring for effective sealing. This ring is meticulously positioned between a male fitting’s shoulder and the female fitting’s face, ensuring a snug fit when pressure is applied.
For those using BSPP pressure gauges, a distinguishing feature is their extended male thread. These gauges rely on a copper crush washer, which, when placed between the base of the male fitting and the female BSPP hole, creates a tight, pressure-resistant seal. Notably, there’s no need for any additional thread sealant to achieve this seal.
What’s G thread?
Interestingly, the “G” designation associated with these threads, which is believed to be derived from the German/English term for “Gas”, refers to the cylindrical pipe threads with a 55° apex angle. These were originally designed for inch-based pipes.
What’s the difference between BSPP and G?
It’s worth noting that the terms “BSPP” and “G” threads are used interchangeably. Both represent the same straight, parallel threading, with measurements based on threads per inch. Thus, in essence, BSPP is synonymous with G threads.
